In a war of getting traffic from internet, a local general contractor started a strategy that may be unfair to competitors. Say Classic Kitchens of Virginia, as registered domain names of competitors with more obscure extensions instead of the normal “.com”. Competitors’ domain names with different TLD like .biz will be redirect to Classic Kitchens’ website. Through this strategy, Classic Kitchens get free traffic from competitors’ effort. Matt Gunn, a vice president and co-owner at Classic Kitchens, said he registered the domains to boost his search optimization results.
Now he has more than 100 domains but not all are competitor’s names with different TLD. Some competitors already complained to Gunn but he still want to continue with his plan. Ed Lane, the founder and owner of Lane Homes & Remodeling is waiting to assemble more contractors to talk with Gunn with his unfair strategy. In term of copyright and trademark, the strategy is probably legal and it is relatively bold SEO strategy. However, all competitors are not happy with this.
That is very interesting strategy and unique technique. Competitors could buy all TLDs and then this strategy will not work for Gunn.
