IndiaIndia is getting more and more appearance in the world, now they started to join a league of nations with website domain names in local languages. According to government officer, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICAAN) has approved India’s application for internationalized domain names (IDNs) in seven regional languages in the first leg of a two-part approval process.

Now India is still waiting the final approval that expected can be done within a few months and then followed by website registrations in regional languages within 6 months after that. Part of the approval process is testing the whether the domain names being bought are unique to a country and not in use by other nations. Department of information technology of India had sent the proposal to ICAAN in May and once this proposal is approved, domain names can be typed in local languages with India-specific extensions such as “dot bharat” instead of “dot com”.

India is big country and they sure deserve that.
